Dr. Dan Fulgham A Special Report: The USS Pueblo Incident

On the afternoon of January 23rd, 1968, a U.S. Navy “spy” ship, the USS Pueblo, operating in the Sea Of Japan, was attacked by North Korean torpedo boats, captured and taken to the harbor at Wonsan . One crewmember was killed in the attack. The rest of the crew were imprisoned, tortured, and released to the U.S eleven months later. The capture of the technology aboard the Pueblo set U.S. intelligence back 10 years. Questions began to arise immediately:

· Why had the ship been attacked; it was not the first U.S. intelligence-collecting ship in these waters and was, in fact, relieving a sister ship on station? The Navy owned the ship, but who was operating it?

· Both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force were responsible to provide aid if requested. They did not. Why not?

The Air Force decided to find out what had happened and how it involved the Department. On February 21st,1968, the highest official in the USAF dispatched three Air Force officers to Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan and South Korea, with his authority to investigate the circumstances that might involve the U.S. Air Force.

One of those officers was Major Dan Fulgham, who will relate the behind-the-scenes story, some never before told.

Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on your left then notice golf fairways on your left. At the top of the next hill, turn left into the

wide gate of the Golf Club. Parking is ample, but watch out for those golf carts tearing around the parking lot at full throttle!

They are quiet and their drivers take no prisoners!

The golf club is not on Ft. Sam Houston grounds so security checks are not an issue.
